About the Hardwood Forestry Fund

Purpose
The purpose of the Hardwood Forestry Fund is to promote hardwood timber growth, management, education and environmentally sound uses of our forest resources.

Forestry Projects
Our projects are implemented in cooperation with local, state, and federal forestry departments. The forest areas are developed with support of the Hardwood Forestry Fund, but the land is not owned by the Fund. Projects are on public land, or on land owned by non-profit organizations such as the Boy Scouts and the Wildlife Prairie Park.

The Fund and its members support these projects by contributing money for plantings and by working with forestry officials to develop high quality timber stands, especially when existing public programs and budgets are insufficient to create or improve the forests. Forest management plans are written for most projects, the goals of which are to create multiple use forests including timber for industry and consumers, habitat creation for wildlife and scenic areas for recreational use.

Planting Festivals
Our Fund and its members also help sponsor public planting festivals which are fun, educational and help raise public awareness of our forests. People learn how to enhance their environment, and the festivals provide an opportunity for individuals, community groups and businesses of all sizes and types to work together in a positive and constructive manner.

Planting and Research Projects Create Banner Years The Hardwood Forestry Fund is in an exciting period of activity. Since beginning in 1990, our project activity has grown while financial support from our contributors has risen. Recent project achievements are marked by their diversity and scope. During the past two years, our project activity has increased, and includes twelve new plantings in five different states and one foreign country, as well as, four research projects taking place in Oregon, Indiana, New York and Tennessee. The Fund has planted more than 360,000 seedlings through the years.
